The Prevention Challenge
Modern homes are full of electrical appliances and all sorts of system to provide the quality of life we have come to expect. Systems which operated quietly in the background, until they break down without warning. Breakdowns which can take days or weeks to repair, breakdowns which can be simple inconveniences, or totally disrupt daily life. Whichever the case, they will all be costly.
Breakdowns which could have been prevented if the warnings were noticed in time. Warnings which can easily be monitored with an intelligent system that can notify when something is not quite right. The operating temperature and current draw of electrical motors, voltage fluctuations, pressure and flow rates in water pipes, backpressure in filters, liquid levels in tanks, the list is endless.
By monitoring all the critical measurements of any system, an intelligent system can alert when something is off but still within safe limits, or completely shut down a system to avoid complete failure. Not only that, because all measurements are recorded and stored over time, technicians can easily discover the source of the problem, minimizing future breakdowns.
Until recently, monitoring system were extremely complicated, expensive and required specialized equipment, way outside the scope, or budget of most home owners. Smart devices have changed all this, not having a monitoring and early warning system will certain cost more, in addition to all the inconveniences that follow.
Smart devices, microcontrollers, sensors, controllers, IoT (Internet of Things) devices can offer very limited functionality by themselves, but are all essential components of building an intelligent system managed by one central "brain".
When all these components are unified under one 'roof', the sum of their capabilities are not added, but multiplied, to provide capabilities never before imagined even by the most affluent home owners.
